Doctoral candidates at an advanced stage of all facultys and Postdocs up to two years after the end of their doctorate

Contents:

The workshop is designed to give participants an overview on the process of producing a scientific publication, including intensive exercises which are based on based on the own results of the participants. To assure this, participants will be asked to prepare a figure and figure legend an a short text describing the figure in preparation to the workshop

The workshop includes a theoretical introduction into the structure of scientific publication and principles of writing readable texts in English, which is enhanced and consolidated by the personal writing experience in exercises and by individual feedback. In addition, strategies for paper writing will be introduced and practiced. This highly interactive approach ensures a lasting enhancement of the writing skills of the participants.

Participants will:

  • learn the principles of publication layout
  • learn about presenting results and designing figures
  • learn to define messages and key statements
  • get introduced to general writing techniques and tips for writing readably
  • individually write and improve a short text based on their own results
  • learn to plan and structure the writing process

 

Course format:

  • Interactive workshop with group work, including extensive exercises and examples.
  • Individual feedback on written texts for all participants by the trainer and by other course participants

There are 14 places on this course. The persons that can participate in the course will receive an e-mail from the Graduate Center. Without this confirmation mail you cannot participate in the course. Only participants that have registered for the course via the Graduate Center will receive a certificate of attendance.
