This workshop is designed to improve the participants’ writing skills within the academic field. In the beginning, the steps of the writing process – from first ideas to the finished paper – are untangled and separately discussed. Participants are furthermore equipped with both a broad variety of helpful techniques and practicable knowledge about the English academic writing style. There will also be opportunity to ask questions and to give and receive feedback.

The following topics are at the core of the workshop:

  • Steps of the writing process
  • The English academic writing style
  • Helpful dictionaries, databases and templates
  • Standard situations (paraphrasing and summarizing)
  • Reader orientation and peer reviews
  • Techniques (close reading and revision)
  • Discussion, questions and feedback

Participants will be asked:

  • To fill in a short questionnaire (two weeks before the workshop)
  • To bring a laptop
