Conversational German

Jan 01, 2021 to Dec 31, 2021

Joint offer of Graduate Center, Postdoc Center and International Center

Target Group

This course is designed for doctoral candidates and postdocs from abroad as well as their partners who would like to learn basic conversational German for daily life.

This course will allow you to practice and improve your knowledge of German. It concentrates particularly on speaking and pronunciation. At the beginning German grammar will also play a significant part since it is essential for a fluent use of the language. The trainer John Tiede teaches in small groups with a similar language level and adapts his teaching to the needs of the participants, who may suggest particular topics or would like to discuss specific problems. Because participants in this course change over the year the content of the course will vary.

If you would like to participate in this course please send an email to the trainer, John Tiede, with information on how long and in which form you have been learning German and which level you have already reached. Mr Tiede will then inform you about the language level of the ongoing course and give you a date when you can join the course. During your first attendance you will take a short assessment test so he can allocate you to an appropriate learning group. After that you can attend the course three times before you have to decide whether you would like to attend regularly.

Doctoral candidates who want to attend in this course regularly must be registered with the Graduate Center. Please note that you will be asked by the Graduate Center during the registration process to sent your acceptance letter from the dean's office of the faculty which should be the one to refer the doctoral degree to you to the Graduate Center office.

Postdocs should contact Dr. Gesche Braker from the Postdoc Center first.

The partners of registered persons can also attend this course continuously after sending their affiliation to a registered person to the Graduate Center per email.
